This course will examine examples of English prose literature from different periods: a nineteenth-century short novel (Daisy Miller, by Henry James), two early twentieth century short stories ("Bliss" and "A Dill Pickle", by Katherine Mansfield) and a twenty-first century novel (The Stone Gods, by Jeanette Winterson). Classes will consist of short lectures and discussion.
Aims:
--To compare prose writing from different periods in English literature to see the different ways in which the texts present "reality".
