This course will examine how the early Modernist novel by Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness (1899), was adapted into a film, Apocalypse Now (1979), directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and re-contextualized from 19th century European imperialism into an exploration of 20th century U.S. imperialism in the Vietnam War.
